Orange Mountain Music presents Philip Glass’s Etude No.2 reworked, performed, and realized by Anna von Raison/AVR. Since the publication of the sheet music to Philip Glass’s Complete Piano Etudes in 2014, the pieces have gone on to become a contemporary classic and recorded dozens of times by some of the most prominent pianists of our time.
The Glass Etudes have also provided fodder for all sorts of imaginative reinterpretations. This new release by Anna von Raison in collaboration with her alter ego AVR, is a complete reimagining of the coolest elements of the original piano work.
In “Etude No.2 Reworked,” she recasts Glass’s solo piano for her own voice, growing into layered voices and electronics, to an underpinning of her own performance of the piece on piano. The fantastical sonic landscape becomes a cosmic gateway which transports the listener to a new place. All AVR’s elements are carefully balanced, and then magically combined into a moving whole. Etude No.2 Reworked is a mesmerizing combination of the elements of Glass’s original mood, as internalized by AVR, and reborn as something totally new.
The celebration of the release on 8 March 2024 is in tandem with AVR’s video drop directed by Alex de Brabant.

I don't need every Kronos performance to be one that shakes me to my essence, but I do always want them to be interesting. Kronos has been my gateway to discovering a lot of composers I never knew of before, so this one is worth checking out. Richard Weems
